About Big Counter
Big Counter is a go-to lunch sandwiches spot in Los Angeles, CA, with a no-frills feel and a sunlit dining room with banquettes along one wall. The kitchen leans into sandwiches done well, smoking their meats in a custom offset pit out back.
The signature item to try first is the Italian Sub, which has earned a loyal following. The rest of the menu rounds it out with options like Turkey Club, Pulled Pork, Reuben, plus rotating specials that change with the season. Portions are generous for the price point ($), and the kitchen is consistent — orders come out fast even when the place is full.
On a typical day you'll find neighborhood regulars who know the staff by name, especially around the lunch and dinner rushes. The bar pours a tightly curated list of regional craft beers and natural wines. The kitchen happily accommodates common allergies if you let them know. The dining room is clean, the music is at a reasonable volume, and the wifi works.
For ordering, the takeout window stays open even when the dining room is at capacity. Anyone visiting the neighborhood for the first time should put it on the short list. Whether you're new to Los Angeles or a longtime resident hunting for a reliable sandwiches fix, Big Counter earns a spot in the regular rotation.

I work nearby and stop in at least twice a week. The Turkey Club hits every time. Service is quick, the space is clean, and they take dietary requests seriously which I appreciate. Easy five stars from me.
Mixed feelings. The Italian Sub was excellent and the cashier was friendly, but my side came out cold and they were out of two of the things I wanted to order. Probably worth another try, but not the experience I was hoping for.
Hidden gem. We were in the neighborhood for an appointment and stopped here based on a friend's recommendation. So glad we did. The Reuben was unreal — clearly made with care. We're already planning our next visit.
Big Counter has become my regular weekday lunch. Consistent quality, generous portions, and the staff has started to recognize me. I usually grab the Caprese Panini but I've worked through most of the menu and haven't had a miss yet.
